Cambodia: 48 die, 344 injured in New Year accidents.
Forty-eight people died and 344 were injured in traffic accidents over Khmer New Year, an official said. The toll is down from last year when 58 people died and 416 were injured.
The number of accidents fell from 211 last year to 165 this year, led by Takeo with 20 accidents, Kampong Cham with 18 and Battambang with 14. Speeding and drunk driving were the main causes of accidents.
Thailand: Songkran Seven days road toll 320.
A total of 320 people were killed in 3,129 road accidents over the “seven dangerous days” of the Songkran holiday, from April 11 to 17, the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department reported on Wednesday.
The fatalities were up from 271 last year by 49.
A total of 3,320 people were reported injured in road accidents during the seven days, a drop from the 3,476 injured reported last year,
The department on Tuesday reported the six-day road toll at 282.
